Gemini G.E.L.

Founded in 1966, Gemini G.E.L. is an artists‘ workshop and publisher of limited edition prints and sculptures. At Gemini, the artists do all of the drawing or carving directly onto the printing elements. The edition is hand-printed by Gemini‘s master printers, and each print is signed and numbered by the artist as well as embossed with the Gemini ‘chop‘.

In 1981, the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., established the Gemini G.E.L. Archive, which functions as a study center for scholars and collectors, and contains a complete history of the workshop. Included is one example from each of the over 2,000 editions published. Three major exhibitions with works from the archive have been organized and exhibited by the National Gallery in the past 21 years. They recently created a complete online Gemini Catalogue Raisonné at http://www.nga.gov/gemini

Gemini has collaborated with more than 60 highly accomplished artists in lithography, etching, screenprinting, woodcut and a variety of sculptural materials.

Wim Wenders has also published numerous books of essays and photographs. He lives in Los Angeles and Berlin with his wife, photographer. The Talk Market: Making a Web Commercial

Mr. Singer joined last year with Amanda Eilian, a former Baker scholar at Harvard Business School, to build The Talk Market, which helps businesspeople shoot, edit and post videos to the Web. The service costs nothing, although users share with The Talk Market a 5 percent commission whenever someone clicks on the “buy” button in the video window.

The Talk Market begins with an online tutorial on how to shoot product demonstration videos: light well, change camera angles, speak as if you are talking to a friend and look directly into the lens “as if you’re locking eyes with your audience.”

Hermann Zapf and his Zapfino typeface

Hermann Zapf, born in Nuremberg, Germany, in 1918 and now living in Darmstadt, taught himself calligraphy from the books of Rudolf Koch and Edward Johnston. He has had a distinguished career in type design and typography which stretches over fifty years. His Zapfino typeface, originally released in 1998, was an amazing success that has since worked its way into designs produced all around the world. Hermann Zapf’s artistic and technical masterpiece is both traditional and modern at the same time. Used with popular layout software applications, Zapfino can help create breathtakingly calligraphic layouts.

In 2003, Hermann Zapf reengineered his design, imbuing it with the new OpenType technology. Even though the resulting font, Zapfino Extra, has significantly more characters, OpenType technology makes the face drastically simpler to use.

Hermann Zapf is recognised as one of the world’s leading type designers and typographers, having designed Roman, Greek and Arabic faces. He has been made an Honorary Designer for Industry by the Royal Society of Arts and has won innumerable awards. He is an honorary member of over twenty-four societies across the globe and is also Honorary President of the Edward Johnston Foundation.

Linotype´s Zapfino™ Extra is an expansion of the first Zapfino type family of 1998. The basic roman alphabet with 3 additional script variations is now complemented with small caps, mathematical symbols, additional ligatures, fractional numbers and with hyper-flourishes. Theses are some extremely big swashes running over two or three text lines. Read more...

Marketing: User Generated Content Promotions

Mark Hardison, VP of Marketing for El Pollo Loco, joins host Paul Lewis to discuss User Generated Content Promotions. Listen…
Consumer Generated Content
Consumer generated content is the actual message contained in consumer generated media. Consumer generated content is typically a review, commentary, or set of opinions on a product or service that the commentator has personal experience with. This content can have positive or negative effects on a brand's image depending on the opinions of the writer. Consumer generated content, as related to consumer generated media, usually refers to commentary cited online - in blogs, personal websites, message boards, and related media. Content created by consumers, as compared to advertising created by businesses, is typically seen as more reputable because it is unsolicited and does not financially benefit the writer.
