KT Meaney: Greening the Grocery Store

In 1988, the Society of the Plastics Industry developed a resin identification code — a numbering system from 1 to 7 — categorizing different types of plastic. The code is centered in a triangle made of arrows chasing each other. This mark is commonly misidentified as the recycling symbol. Though the system was instituted to “facilitate the recycling of post-consumer plastics,” the chasing arrows graphic is meaningless. Plastic imprinted with the arrow symbol doesn’t indicate that the material is made from recycled content nor that the plastic can be recycled, misleading many.

All my images at these sites are royalty free and can be used for various projects from Advertising to presentations. All images are available with extended licenses and come in a variety of sizes from small to extra large. Illustrations can also normally be downloaded in vector format.

United Bamboo is a label and a lifestyle

Launched in 1998 and now expanded into a cultural project, United Bamboo has established itself as a pioneer in fashion design and creative collaboration with downtown artists, curators and musicians under the direction of Miho Aoki and Thuy Pham. Launched by Miho Aoki who moved from her native Japan to study at FIT in 1995, she was formerly a design assistant at the New York based fashion/art collective, Bernadette Corp. Thuy Pham, a native of Vietnam, was the designer for Bernadette Corp. As United Bamboo they continue to expand their conceptual reach through collaborations with a diverse community of artists. Multidimensional in scope, and focused on fostering the new and experimental, United Bamboo’s revisioning of classic American sportswear embodies this spirit as demonstrated in their runway debut in New York for Fall 2004.
